La Casa Azul Bookstore turns one this Saturday June 1, 2013!

One year ago, a crowd-funding campaign of 500+ contributors via the “40K in 40 days” made the dreams of an exceptional Latina come true. La Casa Azul Bookstore, the brainchild of Aurora Anaya-Cerda, has become a literary hub for Latino writers, featuring books that focus on Latino history, the Latino immigrant experience, bilingual children’s books and a collection of over 75 books from local Latin@ writers.

In its first year alone, La Casa Azul Bookstore has planned over 200 events and programs, including readings by literary powerhouses Sandra Cisneros, Esmeralda Santiago, Meg Medina and Daisy Martinez. And there’s no signs of slowing down, either. Plans for the second year include the development of new programs such as the De Colores Summer Reading Program and a Spanish Immersion Summer Camp, and the 3rd Annual East Harlem Children’s Book Festival (June 8, 2013).

Come celebrate this very special anniversary with an unveiling of a permanent installation mural by LadyK Feverr, a 10% discount off all purchases, live performances and readings, and last but certainly not least, free cupcakes.

Congratulations to our friends at La Casa Azul Bookstore! Here’s to many, many more years of supporting Latino Literature in the East Harlem Community!
